I'm long delayed in getting anything posted. And even this isn't going to be very heavy in substance, if I'm being honest. Since my last update, there's been a hurricane, followed by a decision to move my creative studio into a different room. So basically, work on my projects has slowed to a bit of a crawl.
But slow progress is still progress. So here is what I've accomplished in that time.
After finishing the straps that make up the structure of Yasha's undergarment, I started patterning out the fabric panels that will fill parts of the lattice of pleather straps. I used blue painter's tape for this purpose, in much the same way many cosplayers create patterns on their own bodies. I ended up nearly wrecking the the whole process. As I pulled the tape patterns off the dress form, some of the larger pieces stuck together, and were a bit of a mess once I got them separated. But with some work I was able to put them back into a semblance of a pattern.
Literally as hurricane winds blew outside, I sat on the living room floor re-tracing those tape patterns onto poster pater to create the final patterns for the cloth panels, praying to the Storm Lord that the electricity held out long enough to get it done (it did hold out, until around 4:00am the following morning).
Post-hurricane, I also was able to create a pattern for the cape. I typically use pages from my old news-print drawing tablets for making patterns, but I was completely out. Fortunately I was able to scavenge to packing paper from a bin of newspaper I use to spray paint on. Taping some sheets together with the help of my cats, I was able to draw out a rough pattern. And I have actually been able to cut the fabric for this particularly piece of the costume. Hopefully soon I'll get around to hemming the edges of the cape and get into the dying process. I'm going to be trying to do a color gradient with this, from pale blue to deep midnight-blue. That will likely be one of my next few blog posts.
